Q. Does “outsourcing” mean that BFIS will take over my IT department?
A. To the contrary, think of BFIS as an extension of your IT team. Our clients maintain control of their IT strategies and directions in addition to selection, development, delivery and support of their business applications. We afford our clients the benefit of focusing on their core business of delivering business solutions to their
company while we take care of their day-to-day processing and infrastructure requirements.
Q. We haven't considered outsourcing our infrastructure. What are some reasons why companies implement this strategy?
A. Reasons vary from enterprise to enterprise. However, we’ve found there are five primary reasons:
- Companies need to reduce operating costs but maintain reasonable service levels.
- Companies lack the resources to simultaneously develop new applications and maintain legacy systems.
- System complexities have outgrown the support capabilities of internal staff.
- Existing facility lacks necessary security, high-availability characteristics, and backup capabilities.
- Corporate directives mandate outsourcing non-core IT functions.
Rising IT costs - need to reduce or control costs due to following:
- Headcount increasing within IT department in attempt to accommodate variety of
software, hardware, requested tasks, etc.
- Business software running on variety of platforms (i.e., mainframe computer based business
software, midrange computer based business software, Windows (NT, XP, 2000, etc) based business
software). Numerous support people needed for software variety.
SOLUTION: Consider outsourcing to BFIS.
Our vast familiarity and experience with software,
hardware and operations delivers the technical know-how
to you. Rather than your company hiring people, buying
hardware and software to support growing demands of the
organization, put BFIS to work for YOU! The need for business continuance can be accomplished through BFIS rather than
through building and paying for an additional data center as back up. Outsourcing can offer a solution for out-of-control costs. Our Data Center model is already built and paid for with enterprise dollars. We offer services that may be lower
in cost compared to in-house IT departments.
Your company can concentrate on its core products and services instead of running a full-blown IT organization.

Lack of Internal Skills due to increasing organizational demands:
- Needs still exist for good mainframe technical skills - may be project oriented or long term needs -
mainframe skills are becoming scarce in the market.
- Acquisitions - company buy-outs/mergers create additional IT demands for
skill sets outside of company standards and experience.
SOLUTION: Utilize BFIS skill sets comprised of years of experience and knowledge in the
mainframe and midrange server platforms. Contract by the project or long-term to fulfill the necessary technical skills required.

Migrating business software from mainframe-based to different platform:
- Companies move from an older (legacy) system business software to a newer, lower-cost-to-maintain business software and need a place to host the legacy software while their efforts are focused on design and
implementation (i.e., mainframe business software being phased out while newer Windows based or UNIX based software is implemented).
- Certain key departments (i.e., Financial Department, Customer Service,
etc.) continue to use older, legacy system while some departments (i.e., Sales and Inventory Management implement newer software).
SOLUTION: BFIS can host legacy systems and software for short term or long term and a company can eliminate
the cost of keeping certain software and hardware running in-house.
A company can rid itself of ownership and cost of a mainframe, cost of hardware maintenance, cost system software, cost of operators, cost of technical support, cost of system upgrades,
etc., by
utilizing BFIS to manage their legacy systems.

Access needed to world-class capabilities:
- Sudden growth/acquisition requires jumping IT requirements to world-class.
- Timing forces companies to act on what may be immediately available rather than build time required to meet demands.
SOLUTION: BFIS offers world-class capabilities, immediately available to companies in need.

Adhere to corporate directive to outsource certain IT
functions:
- Instructions given to outsource non-core activities.
- Directive issued to outsource entire IT department.
- Power source may be given to interruptions, brown-outs, or building susceptible to lightning, wind, water, and other local problems.
SOLUTION: BFIS can be the highly reliable data center to companies that must either get rid of some or all IT functions as
a result of company direction.
Physical migration (once outsource is decided) issues carry risk and high
price:
- Competitors charge expensive fees for consulting on planning how to achieve the physical move once outsource option has been selected.
- Once a project-move plan has been designed/established, there are often heavy project management fees involved.
- There are high risks involved when the data itself is moved. Data must move 100% intact; otherwise methods for retrieving any lost data must be in place.
SOLUTION: BFIS offers to design the move project with a team of experienced experts.
BFIS manages the physical move as part of the entire
project.
