A directive was issued as a result of an executive meeting to outsource the mainframe and midrange processing and related services in order to cut costs at former Republic Steel. Republic executives claimed they were in the steel business, not in the IT business. A bid was issued. BFIS was awarded a bid contract for the outsourcing of mainframe and midrange processing for the specialty steel producer. BFIS immediately began project assessment. BFIS managed the project from planning stages to implementation as part of our transition services. The move was accomplished in one holiday weekend following approximately
two months of discussion, planning, and organization. BFIS provided the following services to
Republic for their mainframe and open systems environments:
- Project management - design plan for data and physical move, contact vendors, coordinate various vendors and contractors
- Facilities Management
- 24x7 Operations & Helpdesk Services
- Print output operations
- Production control and scheduling
- Hardware support
- Technical Support
- Telecommunications network management
- Tape operations and administration
